For my risk communication project, I will be designing a newsletter that can be sent out to different schools each month with new updated safety information. Also I will design a brochure that will be giving to each coach who comes to participate in a safety certification course. They will them take a different brochure back to the schools and distribute them to the cheerleading participants. The website below gives good examples for how to create thesee pieces.

An article from the Washington Post provides information about how risky cheerleading is actually becoming. The article gives actual stories about how girls have gotten seriously injured because of something going wrong while participating in cheerleading. Cheerleading is becoming more and more dangerous because cheerleaders are willing to try harder stunts which can be very risky if they are not ready for it. Cheerleading has changed over the past few years. Cheerleaders are no longer girls who stand on the sidelines with pom poms, they are performing incredible stunts and acrobatics. With the new aspects of the sport becoming more popular, the sport is now much riskier than ever before. Injuries such as sprained wrists, ankles, knees and backs are proof that this sport is challenging. The injuries have more than doubled in the past 10 years according to the Consumer Product Safety Commission who researched the amount of emergency room visits for cheerleading related injuries. This article acknowledges that there are important things that need to be done in order to provide cheerleaders with the proper safety precautions. In most states, cheerleading is not a sport but rather an activity and coaches do not need to have standardized training. Cheerleading should be considered a sport and coaches should have the proper qualifications to handle a squad, and they should follow the same safety regulations as everyone else.
